Christians and Israel

Unrest in the Middle East has existed for thousands of years, but our current escalation has given rise to unusual levels of emphasis among the nations of the world. Indeed, the unprecedented rapid growth of antisemitism in the United States has never been so prevalent as it is today. It should be troubling that so many American Christians and their churches remain silent on this erosive development. Even individual expressions of support for Israel’s enemies are scarce among people who identify themselves as Christians. What is missing here?

Some four thousand years ago, when Abraham answered God’s call to establish a homeland where Israel now sits, he received a direct revelation from God that we must consider today:

And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you and make your name great, so that you will be a blessing. I will bless those who bless you, and him who dishonors you I will curse, and in you all the families of the earth shall be blessed.

Genesis 12:2-3

That passage should be acknowledged by all believers as an inviolable truth: we must support the Jewish people and their nation, Israel. We (Christians) will be blessed by our support of God’s Chosen People.

But God did not stop there He later revealed another blessing that has not expired nor ever will.

And I will establish my covenant between me and you and your offspring after you throughout their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. And I will give to you and to your offspring after you the land of your sojournings, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession, and I will be their God.

Genesis 17:7-8

That promise is still in effect. In all these thousands of years, there has never been a time when the Jews did not have a remnant of people in the land. Since that covenant was declared, God has not, and will not, change his mind. The world should be warned that His word will be enforced. They would be well-advised to tread lightly.

“Then the nations around you that remain will know that I, the Lord, have rebuilt what was destroyed, and I have replanted what was desolate. I, the Lord, have spoken, and I will do it.”

Ezekiel 36:36
