Short essays on the people and cultures of the Bible.

I was born in Mississippi and now call Oklahoma my home.

I graduated from Texas Tech University with a BBA in 1966, and later received my MLA from Southern Methodist University in Dallas.

My dream was to work in heavy industry, and that led me to several years at the Ford Motor Company plant in Dallas. Later I moved to an association of banks in the start-up phase of a centralized center providing data processing, inter-bank settlement of bank card transactions, and record keeping and servicing for numerous banks in Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, and Oklahoma. The new product was a concept known as Master Charge, but the center would eventually expand to serve the card’s new name, MasterCard, and also included BankAmericard, later known as VISA.

Eventually our family moved to Oklahoma, where I operated a card services center for a local bank in Oklahoma City. As the industry grew and consolidated in large metropolitan areas, I remained in Edmond, Oklahoma, where Phyllis — a schoolteacher, and my wife of 63 years — and I became licensed real estate agents, a fascinating and fulfilling occupation.

During most of my life I have been deeply involved as a Bible studies teacher and a leader in Bible and Christian doctrine. Since our recent retirement from business pursuits, I have begun writing about issues and events that intrigue me from the pages of scripture, or from current developments in America’s faith and culture. I am also currently involved in publishing a memoir of oral tales and events incurred while growing up amid the turmoil of the Deep South’s pivotal days.
